The South African Association of Freight Forwarders

Greetings! You have entered the website of the South African Association of Freight Forwarders (SAAFF). We are hopeful that whatever the purpose of you contacting us in this manner is, you will be satisfied with what you find.

Freight Forwarding plays an essential role in international trade and our members are dedicated to facilitating this activity through their involvement in the management of transportation, customs clearing, documentation, third party payments and many other elements of international supply chains. We call the freight forwarder the "architect of transport". Globalisation and the need to reduce cost over the entire supply chain have re-focused the freight forwarder in ways that are innovative and functional.

SAAFF provides material support and added value to its members to enhance the level of service these members are able to offer their trading customers.

Our Mission

"To Promote, encourage and protect the interests of its members by keeping abreast of matters relevant to freight forwarders and customs clearing agents, influencing outcomes to the benefit of the members' clients in particular and facilitating South Africa's international trade in general."

How SAAFF Adds Value

  • Advances the interests of members in all matters affecting the industry using our collective knowledge and skills.
  • Ensures that members are kept abreast of industry developments in areas as varied as freight technology, security and best practice.
  • Creates a framework for industry training courses to educate new recruits or those needing additional skills to further their careers.
  • Addresses policy matters among carriers, providers of infrastructure and ancillary services, and other third parties.
  • Facilitates co-operation and communication with authorities and other industry bodies to enhance the economic well-being of members, and in turn, the logistics and supply chain performance of their customers.
  • Ensures effective application of collective intellectual capital to the key transport and logistics elements supporting South Africa's international trade.
  • Participates in initiatives aimed at trade facilitation.

Code of Conduct

SAAFF encourages the highest level of moral and ethical conduct of its members. As freight forwarders and customs clearing agents, the services provided by members impact greatly on the success or otherwise of their clients shipments, the correctness of declarations and documents, transit times, accurate payments to third parties, and a host of other factors within the international supply chain. To this end, members are required to accept and abide by a Code of Ethical Conduct, to sign a certificate confirming this, and to display prominently a copy of such certificate in a public area of every office where they trade.
